Nokia and Cap Gemini to co-operate in delivering WAP solutions

[April 19th 2000] Nokia Networks and Cap Gemini, one of the world's largest consulting and systems integration companies, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to have a strategic co-operation in the development and delivery of end-to-end Mobile Internet solutions for customers.

Cap Gemini will integrate Nokia products, service delivery platforms and service management solutions, as well as third-party customer-care-and billing systems. Nokia Mobile Internet solutions include, for example, a platform for WAP services and Nokia GPRS Service Management Solutions. Nokia and Cap Gemini will also co-operate in developing Mobile Internet applications that will be built on top of Nokia's service delivery platforms, such as Nokia WAP Gateway and Nokia Artus MAX, and sold to Nokia customers as part of the application offering. These applications will include selected Mobile Internet applications over GPRS (General Packet Radio Service) and 3rd Generation Networks. In addition the two companies will develop mobile commerce solutions to enable operators and service providers to move into this growing business.

"Systems integration will have a crucial role in building future multiservice networks. We are focusing on developing innovative solutions and delivering them together with our world-class partners. We chose Cap Gemini as a partner because of its strong expertise as a telecom and Internet systems integrator," said Ari Lehtoranta, Vice President and General Manager, Systems Integration, Nokia Networks, "In the new communications environment operators have more complex needs for services and applications and so benefit from pre-integrated end-to-end solutions. Nokia's plug-and-play approach to Mobile Internet shortens time-to-market and increases cost-efficiency."

"Industry analysts are predicting that 30-50 per cent of business-to-business use of the Internet will be carried out on a mobile device by 2004," said Alexandre Haeffner, president of Cap Gemini Telecom, Media & Networks. "By matching Cap Gemini's strong integration and consulting skills with Nokia's strengths in mobile Internet, The companies will help service providers realize their ambitions to put mobile Internet into every pocket."
